Successful Examinees

The Philippine Board of Orthodontics since 1984 conducts annually its certifying examinations which consists of   

  1. the Phase I:  Application, Interview and Practical Exercise (Graduates of PBO Accredited Programs are exempt from this Phase)
  2. the Phase II:  Written Examination
  3. Phase III:  5 Case Presentations
  4. Phase IV: 10 Case Presentations

The PBO has been Accredited by the PRC Board of Dentistry in 1989/2005 and recognized by the World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO) and Accredited by the Association of Philippine Orthodontists.

Successful 2012 Examinees

Graduating students of PBO Accredited Programs (CEU and UP) are exempt from the PBO Phase I Examination and may take the Phase II exam in their senior year prior to their graduation. Passing the exam establishes their eligibilty to apply for membership into the Association of Philipine Orthodontists as Associate Members with a 6-year deadline to elevate by taking the Phase III: 5 Case Presentations Examination.

On January 25, 2012 the  PBO Phase II:  Written Examinations were conducted at the Rockwell Club, Makati City chaired by  Dr. Sandra S. Adriano  with PBO Examination Committee members:  Dr. Marianne Perez, Dr. Marivic Reyes, Dr. Crissie Santayana and Dr. Marina Lu-Tan.  The successful examinees are:

Dr. Pearlie Tan Cua graduated from the University of the East College of Dentistry in 1991 and underwent numerous preceptorships.  Having passed the PBO Phase I:  Interview and Practical Examination  and  Phase II: Written Examinations she qualified to apply to the Association of Philippine Orthodontists as an Associate Member.

Dr. Pooja Pokhavel was born in Nepal and graduated from   the People’s Dental  College in 2006 and is a graduating member of the CEU Graduate Program in Orthodontics.

Dr. Naeem Moideen was born and raised in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and in March 2005 obtained his Bachelor of Dental Surgery BDS from  the VMS Dental College in Salem, India.  He is a graduating member of the CEU Graduate Program in Orthodontics.

Successful 2011 PBO Phase IV Examinees

On July 27, 2011 the 2011 PBO Phase IV Examinations were conducted at the Polo Club, Makati City with Dr. Sandra S. Adriano, Chair PBO Examination Committee with members:  Dr. Marianne Perez, Dr. Marivic Reyes, Dr. Crissie Santayana and Dr. Marina Lu-Tan conducting the evaluation of the candidates’ 10 Cases followed by the Oral Examinations to assess the candidate’s treatment planning and knowledge of various aspects of treatment particularly on the cases presented by the candidate and on cases presented by the PBO.

Dr. Annabelle Eloise D. Kopio obtained her dental degree from the Centro Escolar University (CEU) College of Dentistry in 1986 and her Master of Science (MS) from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry’s Graduate Program in Orthodontics in 1992.  Since 1995 she has maintained her practice at the St. Lukes Medical Center in Quezon City.

Dr. Ma. Teresa P. Goduco completed her dental studies at the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Dentistry in 1990 and obtained her Master of Science (MS)  from the Marquette University School of Dentistry in 1994.  She is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and holds her practice with her sister who is a Pediatric Dentist at their clinic at Global City, Taguig.

Dr. Rachel Yang-Lim was born and raised in Cebu where she finished her Pre-Dental at the University of San Carlos and her dental degree from the University of the East (UE) College of Dentistry in 1992 and underwent orthodontic training at New York University.  She successfully went through the complete process of taking PBO Phases I, II, III and IV.  Her practice is in Cebu City.

Successful 2010 PBO Phase III: 5 Case Presentations

Dr. Lucia Ceed Marie D. Torres obtained her dental education from the Centro Escolar University graduating in 1989 and completed  Dr. Luz C. Macapanpan’s preceptorship in 1992 and successfully passed the PBO Phases I and II examinations to gain admission into APO as an Associate Member. Passing the Phase III Examination elevates her to Affiliate member of APO.

Successful 2010 Phase IV: 10 Case Presentations

The July 28, 2010 PBO examination was held at Makati Polo Club Makati City with Dr. Crisanta Santayana as the Chair of the  PBO Examination Committee. Members of the Examination Committee were Dr. Marilyn Leung, Dr. Katherine Ong, Dr. Patricia Claparaols and Dr. Sandra Syliangco-Adriano. 10 cases were required for Phase 4 that includes pre-treatment, post treatment and 2yrs post retention records.

Dr. Ma. Catherine Veneracion-Juliano graduated from the University of the East College of Dentistry in 1988 and after finishing the Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center she completed Dr. Luz C. Macapanpan’s preceptorship in 1994 and then completed the UP Graduate Program in Orthodontics in 1996 followed by a year’s preceptorship with Dr. Wick Alexander in Austin, Texas.  She joined the faculty of the UP Graduate Program in Orthodontics where she taught from 1998-2011 and maintains practices in her hometown of General Santos City  and Quezon City.

Dr. Maria Laarni P. Serraon graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Dentistry in 1998 and after completing her orthodontic preceptorship with Dr. Luz C. Macapanpan in 1993,  took the UP Graduate Program in Orthodontics obtaining her Certificate of Proficiency in Orthodontics in 1995 and Master of Science in Dentistry (Orthodontics) in 2000.  Her subsequent tutelage under Dr. Young Kim  and the MEAW Research Foundation saw the publication of her co-authored study published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.  She was a former faculty member of the UP Graduate Program in Orthodontics and former Chair of the Manila Central University Graduate Orthodontic Program and is the current President-Elect of the Association of Philippine Orthodontists.

A total of 4 candidates successfully passed the January 28, 2009 Phase III PBO two-part Examinations which consisted  of a comprehensive  presentation of at least 5 Case Reports of patients that have been treated by the candidates  and an Oral Examination  to assess the candidate’s treatment planning ability and knowledge of various aspects of treatment.

 

Dr. Rachel Yang-Lim is a Cebu-based orthodontist who had her predental education at the University of San Carlos in Cebu City and graduated from the University of the East College of Dentistry in 1992 and had her postgraduate orthodontic training at the New York University from 1993-1994.  Aside from full-time practice specializing in orthodontics she is a licensed realtor and a member of the Philippine Association of Realtors Board, the Cebu Realtors Board and currently the Cebu Lions Club President.
Dr. Crysoine Razon Marquez graduated from the University of the East College of Dentistry in 1994 and  underwent her 24 month orthodontic preceptorship training under the Tuazon Postgraduate Program in Orthodontics from 1996-1998. She is presently training and a volunteer Orthodontist at Our Lady of Peace Craniofacial Center aside from being the Company Dentist to several companies and the Orthodontist for various clinics.  Aside from Fellowship in the Association of Philippine Orthodontists her professional memberships include the Alpha Phi Omega Dental Association of the Philippines and the Filipino-Chinese Dental Society.  She is a multi-awarded leader being the Past President of the Marikina Dental Society.
Dr. Maria Janet Mapa-Pandan graduated from the Centro Escolar University College of Dentistry in 1992 after which she underwent the Dental Externship Program in Oral Surgery at the UP-PGH and underwent the orthodontic preceptorship of Dr. Ranilo Tuazon and completed the course offered by the MEAW(MultiLoop Edgewise Archwire) Study Club.  She is a Co-Founder/Corporate Secretary for Integrated Oral Health Specialties,Inc. at the Asian Hospital and Medical Center and is a Board Member with the Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation Philippines, Inc.   She serves as an Orthodontist at the Smile Train Craniofacial Center Joshua Center, Taft Avenue, Manila (front of PGH) and Our Lady of Peace Craniofacial Center (OLPCC) Our Lady of Peace Hospital, Coastal Road, Paranaque subspecializing in the care of Cleft Lip/Palate (CL/P) patients.  She has attended various CL/P workshops locally and abroad in Brazil, China, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and the United States both as a  Delegate and Lecturer  making her a sought-after speaker.   She is a Fellow in the Pierre Fauchard Academy and a Member of the Association of Philippine Orthodontists (APO), the Paranaque Dental Society,  and the American Cleft Lip Palate – Craniofacial Association (ACPA).
Dr. Rossana Lorenzo-Sanchez obtained her Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of the East College of Dentistry in 1988  and placed 8th in the May 1988 Dental Board Examination and was a Rotary International Group Exchange Program Scholar to Alabama, USA in 1991.   She completed the Orthodontic Preceptorship Course:  The Biological Basis and Clinical Practice of Orthodontics under Dr. Luz C. Macapanpan from 1995-1996.

On Jan 30, 2008 only one successful candidate was able to participate in the PBO Phase III Examinations:

 

Dr. Maria Emilyn Bautista-de Marcaida obtained her Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of the Philippines in 1985 and undertook the Preceptorship on the Biologic Basis and Clinical Practice of Orthodontics under Dr. Luz C. Macapanpan from 1992-93. Additional orthodontic training was obtained under the preceptorship of Dr. Ranny Tuazon in 1999 and the MEAW Study Club in 2003. She took her PBO Phase III examinations in January 2008. One of her Phase III Case Reports was published in the Philippine Journal of Orthodontics in August 2008.
