What Board Certification means for you
When a dentist graduates from an accredited orthodontic specialty program, he or she becomes an orthodontic specialist--who is now eligible to become board certified through the voluntary examination process of The Philippine Board of Orthodontics (PBO). Partaking in the certification process shows that the orthodontist is committed to an ongoing pursuit of excellence and competence in the field of orthodontics. This helps ensure the well-being and care of orthodontic patients.
The certification process involves a thorough Written Examination covering all areas of information on which an orthodontist should be knowledgeable. Successful passage allows the orthodontist to present treated cases which will be evaluated by expert examiners of the Board during a Clinical Examination. Certification is then awarded for a time-limited period and the orthodontist must re-examine on a periodic basis to retain the board certified status.
